Remove the chat widget from your site
Take Hushdesk chat off your site by deleting the snippet or the plugin. Nothing is left behind, and your tickets and settings stay in Hushdesk.

Removing Hushdesk chat is as simple as adding it: delete the one line of code and the chat is gone. The loader only ever adds its own button and window, so there is nothing else to clean up on your site.
Before you start
- Who can do this: anyone who can edit your site. Owners and admins manage the allowed sites in Hushdesk.
- Plan: all plans.
- Time: a couple of minutes.
Step by step
- Find where you pasted the snippet:
- Shopify: Online Store > Themes > ⋯ > Edit code > layout/theme.liquid.
- WordPress: your footer scripts plugin, your child theme's
footer.php, or the Hushdesk plugin under Plugins. - Other builders: the "custom code" or "footer scripts" setting.
- Delete the line that starts with
<script src=and containshelpdesk.js. On WordPress with the plugin, deactivate and delete the plugin instead. - Save or publish.
- Clear any cache or CDN in front of your site.
- Open your site in a private window and check the chat button is gone.
- In Hushdesk, remove the site from Other sites allowed to show the widget if you listed it there, and press Save changes.
What happens next
The chat button no longer loads on your site. Existing chat tickets stay in your inbox and can still be answered while their visitor's session lasts. Home's Live chat row may still show On your site until the site's "last seen" entry ages out.
Remove it from one page only
To keep chat off a single page, such as checkout, call this on that page:
window.Helpdesk && window.Helpdesk.destroy();
destroy() removes the button, the chat window, every listener and window.Helpdesk from that page.
Tips
- If you are switching from the snippet to the WordPress plugin, remove the snippet first so the widget is not loaded twice.
- Keep your widget settings. Pasting the snippet back later restores the same look.
- If you are moving to a new domain, change Settings > Store rather than removing chat.
Troubleshooting
The chat button is still there
A cache is serving old pages. Clear your caching plugin, theme cache or CDN, then check in a private window.
"This chat is not available on this site."
A copy of the snippet is still on a site you removed from the allowed list. Delete that copy as well.
Frequently asked questions
How do I uninstall the Hushdesk chat widget?
Delete the one script line you pasted, wherever you put it, and save. On Shopify that is layout/theme.liquid, on WordPress your footer scripts plugin or the Hushdesk plugin. The chat button disappears the next time a page loads, and nothing else on your site changes.
Does removing the chat widget delete my chat history?
No. Chat tickets, customers and widget settings stay in Hushdesk. You can still read and search old chats in the inbox, and if you paste the snippet back later the widget returns with the same look and settings.
Can I hide the chat on some pages but not others?
Yes. Paste the snippet only on the pages that should have chat, or remove it from the templates that should not. With the WordPress plugin you will be able to exclude chosen pages. In code, Helpdesk.destroy() removes the widget from the current page.
Does the chat widget leave anything behind after removal?
The loader only adds its own button and chat window, and destroy() removes the button, the window, its listeners and window.Helpdesk. Once the snippet is gone from a page, the widget does not load at all. The only trace is the chat session the browser keeps until the tab is closed.
How do I stop chats from a site I no longer use?
Remove the snippet from that site, and remove the site from Other sites allowed to show the widget on the Behaviour tab. If it was your main domain, update Settings, Store too. Copies of the snippet on that site will then show that chat is not available there.
