Keyboard shortcuts make the inbox fast. Move between tickets, reply, use macros and close without touching the mouse. Press ? in the inbox to see the list at any time.
Before you start
- Who can do this: everyone. Shortcuts that change tickets need the agent role or higher.
- Plan: all plans.
- What you need: a keyboard. On a Mac, use Cmd where this page says Ctrl.
Step by step
- Open the inbox.
- Press ? (or choose Keyboard shortcuts in the account menu).
- Read the groups: Move around, Work a ticket and Help.
- Press Esc to close the panel.

Ctrl+J (Draft with AI) and Ctrl+G (Ask AI) work today but are not yet listed in the shortcuts panel. The panel is being updated to include them.
In the macro list, use ↑ and ↓ to browse and Enter to use the highlighted macro.
A fast routine
Open the first ticket in your view, read it, press r to reply and m to find a macro. Send with Ctrl+Enter, press e to close if it is done, then j for the next ticket. Stuck on the wording? Press Ctrl+J for an AI draft and check it before sending. Need to look something up across tickets? Ctrl+G opens Ask AI.
Tips
- Learn j, k, r and e first; they cover most of a working day.
- Use Ctrl+Enter to send without reaching for the mouse.
- Single-letter shortcuts pause while you type; press Esc to leave a text box.
Troubleshooting
A shortcut does nothing
The cursor is probably in a text box. Press Esc first. Browser extensions can also capture some keys; try a private window.
Ctrl+J opens my browser's downloads
The reply box must be focused and in reply mode, not note mode. Click into the reply box first.
Frequently asked questions
How do I see all the keyboard shortcuts?
Press the question mark key anywhere in the inbox, or open the account menu and choose Keyboard shortcuts. A panel lists the shortcuts in groups for moving around, working a ticket and help. Press Esc to close it again.
What is the shortcut for Draft with AI?
Ctrl and J on Windows, or Cmd and J on a Mac, while you are in the reply box in reply mode. Hushdesk drafts an answer from the whole conversation and the matching macros. It is not listed in the shortcuts panel yet, but it works, and the sparkle button's tooltip shows it too.
How do I open Ask AI from the keyboard?
Press Ctrl and G, or Cmd and G on a Mac, from any area of Hushdesk. It opens Ask AI, or puts the cursor in its question box if you are already there. Like Ctrl J, it is missing from the shortcuts panel for now but works everywhere.
Why do shortcuts not work while I type?
Single-letter shortcuts such as j, k and e are switched off while you type in a text box, so your words are not mistaken for commands. Press Esc to leave the box, then use the shortcut. Shortcuts with Ctrl or Cmd, such as Ctrl Enter, work while typing.
Can I change the keyboard shortcuts?
Not at the moment. The shortcuts are fixed and follow common helpdesk conventions, for example j and k to move between tickets, so people coming from other tools feel at home. Let us know if a shortcut clashes with something you use.
